Why I am starting a blog?

Why am I starting a blog?  I am asking myself this very question as I sit here on New Years Day and type this first post.  I don't think I am particularly interesting, nor do I think I am a great writer; however, I have an interest in current affairs and issues facing Canadians today and I feel like having a blog is the best way to give you my view and perspective.

To give you some background on myself.  I am a serving Infantry Officer in the Canadian Army.  I attended College Militaire Royale St-Jean in 2005 and the Royal Military College of Canada from 2006-2010 graduating with a B.A. in Political Science.  I am also a graduate of the Caribbean Junior Command & Staff College in Moneague, Jamaica.  Given my background it is safe to assume I have an interests in strategic studies as well as current affairs.  This is where the main focus of my blog will be; however, given some of my other hobbies such as, sports, the outdoors, movies, music, etc... my blog may take a different direction from time to time.

I see this blog as a New Years Resolution and alternatively as a form of professional development to improve my writing.  I plan on writing for the next 4 months, atleast one post a week about a topic of my choosing.  This is so people can hear what I have to say about a variety of issues concerning the world today and why I believe we as Canadians should be concerned about them.  This is my first post; however expect my first article out sometime this week.

Drew Stymiest

P.S.

While I may be in the military I must point out that the purpose in this blog is not to criticize the Crown (who I have pledged allegiance to), the Government of Canada or the Department of National Defence in any way, shape or form.  So if you are coming to this blog looking for someone who is going to trample on the institution you will not find it.  It is unprofessional, goes against my military ethos and is contrary to military law (Laws which I firmly believe in).
